Till Whenever Do Us Part...

I recently went on a road trip with my late 70-something grandparents, which was no small fete. It was entertaining and at times insanely fun. On the ride home, my grandmother bought an Elle magazine. She never actually reads the articles, but rather looks at the pictures to "see what's in for the fall". She is fascinated by fashion and trends, and although she has no intention to follow the evolution of fashion, she is enthralled by the feathers, metallics and crazy high heels.

She left the magazine in my car and I read an article tonight on marriage and divorce in America. Rachael Combe's "Til Whenever Do Us Part" made me laugh and cry--it was so beautifully, wittily wonderful.

My favorite line:

"The point of living isn't to be in a perpetual state of fairy-tale ecstasy; it's to find the meaning of life, the meaning of your life."

A runner-up:

"I learned at eight what most people don't know at 48: that even those you love most dearly and depend on most completely are profoundly flawed; that even someone who loves you to the fullest extent of their capacity can hurt and disappoint you more than you imagine possible."

If you have the chance, definitely look this article up--it changed my perspective on SO much!

Things that I should be ashamed of…but I’m not:

1. I only watch the audition part of American Idol. There is nothing better than watching people who think they are really good at something, but in actuality, they are terrible.

2. I love my job and my parents paid a lot of money for my education, but sometimes I think I would be happy selling ice cream for a living. Hey, free samples.

3. I secretly pray sometimes that no people will come to see me at work and I can just catch up on celebrity gossip on people.com all day.

4. My friends like to say that I have no filter and I don’t think before I say outrageous things…but the truth is, I do think before I speak…and then I speak anyway.

5. I get weirded out by photos of my co-workers’ families on their desks. I do not want to see your granddaughter’s school picture, nor do I care what your nephew’s soccer team looks like.

6. I like corndogs.

7. If I see someone walking towards me at work or in my social life and I don’t want to talk, I turn and walk the other way…without explanation.

college visit

I just visited my brothers at college, what a good day! I really miss them, but it is nice that they are together in the same city. It made me miss college, though! Four years sounded like a long time before my teenage years. Now I cannot believe that I am so old! Life has been good and I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family.
